Part 107 practice test questions, explained
The Part 107 knowledge test is 60 multiple-choice questions in two hours, and you need 70% to pass. That works out to 42 correct answers. Knowing the rules gets you most of the way. The rest is reading each question the way it was written.

What a test question looks like
Every question is objective multiple choice. Each has one correct response and stands on its own, so no question depends on another. All 46 questions in the FAA’s published sample set have three options, A to C.
Some questions send you to a figure in the testing supplement, FAA-CT-8080-2H. The test center hands you that booklet. The test also includes some questions with an image embedded in the question itself, and from October 26, 2026 that grows to include images taken from current sectional charts.
A figure question from the FAA sample set reads: “(Refer to FAA-CT-8080-2H, Figure 22, area 2.) At Coeur D’Alene which frequency should be used as a Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) to monitor airport traffic?” The FAA’s sample PDF comes with no answer key. If a site “grades” the FAA samples without showing where each answer came from, check it before you trust it.
PSI also gives 5 unscored validation questions on top of the 60 scored ones, and the time limit already allows for them. Answer every question as though it counts.
Where the questions come from
The test is built on the Remote Pilot Airman Certification Standards (ACS), FAA-S-ACS-10B. It divides the knowledge into five areas. The ACS gives a percentage range for each one, and PSI’s current applicant bulletin gives a single weight based on a 2025 job task analysis.

The documents disagree. Treat the ACS as the authority on what content can appear and the PSI bulletin as a description of how the test is weighted today. In practice, regulations deserve your first and longest study sessions.
Every question maps to an ACS code. The FAA’s sample question about operating in Class C airspace carries UA.II.A.K1b, for example. When you finish the real test, your Airman Knowledge Test Report lists the ACS codes of the questions you missed, which tells you exactly what to review if you need a retake.
Habits that cost points
Mixing up AGL and MSL. Part 107’s altitude limit is in feet above ground level (AGL). Aeronautical charts print altitudes in feet above mean sea level (MSL) unless marked otherwise. An answer that’s right in one reference is wrong in the other.
Half-remembering the numbers. Cloud clearance is 500 feet below and 2,000 feet horizontally. Minimum visibility is 3 statute miles from the control station. An option that swaps two numbers looks correct if you learned them loosely.
Choosing the option that sounds most careful. In the FAA sample question on flying in Class C airspace, one option says to monitor the ATC frequency and another says to contact ATC after launch. Both sound responsible. The rule requires prior authorization from ATC, so neither is right.
Forgetting who a rule covers. The alcohol rules apply to the remote PIC, the person at the controls and the visual observer. Any of them breaks the rule by acting within 8 hours of a drink or with an alcohol concentration of 0.04 or more.
Worked example 1: altitude near a structure
These three questions are written by us to match the format. They aren’t FAA questions.
You are inspecting a 300-foot tower and stay within 400 feet of it the whole time. Under 14 CFR part 107, what is the highest you may fly?
A. 400 feet AGL
B. 700 feet AGL
C. 400 feet above the tower, at any distance from it
Answer: B. The normal limit is 400 feet AGL. The exception in §107.51(b) applies within a 400-foot radius of a structure: you may fly up to 400 feet above the structure’s immediate uppermost limit. That’s 300 plus 400, or 700 feet AGL.
Option A ignores the exception. Option C keeps the height but drops the 400-foot radius, and the radius is what makes the higher altitude legal. When an option restates a rule with one condition missing, that’s usually the wrong one.
Worked example 2: a METAR and cloud clearance
The closest reporting station, and the one most representative of your site, reports:

B. 100 feet AGL
C. You can’t fly, because visibility is below the minimum
Answer: B. Decode it group by group. 27012G18KT is wind from 270 degrees true at 12 knots, gusting 18. 5SM is 5 statute miles visibility, and BR is mist. OVC006 is an overcast layer at 600 feet AGL, since cloud heights are given in hundreds of feet above ground level.
Five statute miles beats the 3-mile minimum, so C is wrong. You must stay at least 500 feet below clouds, and 600 minus 500 leaves 100 feet AGL. Option A is the Part 107 altitude limit, but these clouds make it impossible to reach legally.

Worked example 3: load factor in a turn
A fixed-wing small unmanned aircraft holds altitude in a coordinated turn at a 60-degree bank. What load factor does its structure carry?
A. 1.5 G
B. 2 G
C. 3 G
Answer: B. The FAA Remote Pilot Study Guide states that the load factor for any aircraft in a coordinated level turn at a 60-degree bank is 2 Gs. Past about 72 degrees it reaches 3 Gs, which is where option C comes from.
The follow-up the test likes: a higher load factor raises stall speed. Stall speed rises with the square root of the load factor, so an aircraft that stalls at 50 knots in level flight can stall at 100 knots at 4 Gs. Load factor and density altitude on the Part 107 test walks through the rest.
How to use practice questions well
A practice question is worth more after you get it wrong. Every time you miss one, find the sentence in the regulation or handbook that settles it and read the paragraphs around it. That’s why every explanation in our trainer links its source.
Take full-length timed sets once you’ve covered all five areas. Sixty questions in two hours feels different from ten in a coffee break, and knowing your pace ahead of time means you won’t be surprised on test day.
